Horror doesn't always need a jump scare to get under your skin. A house where the evidence refuses to add up can do the job just fine. So can an ancient presence beneath the ice, or a familiar routine that starts feeling a little too strange.
For our second Steam Discovery for October, we're looking at six horror games that take very different paths into the dark. Expect investigations that don't add up, Filipino folklore after midnight, and a few common comforts that quickly turn unsettling. Keep the lights on, and maybe think twice before taking the late-night shift.
DANGER ZONES: A CRIME SCENE VS. AN ABANDONED SUMMER CAMP
One asks you to piece together what happened. The other asks you to survive long enough to find out.

Rehaunted
A young woman is dead, and the house where she was found is full of evidence that doesn't add up. In Rehaunted, detective Connor Raines must investigate the crime scene, uncover hidden clues, and connect the dots with tools like a UV flashlight, camera, and evidence board. The deeper the case goes, the less certain the truth becomes.
"We came to close a case, but this house has clearly never heard of a straightforward timeline."

Camp Hollow
It's 1993, and Riley Blackwood has a night shift at an abandoned summer camp in West Virginia. What should be a quiet job quickly turns into a fight to survive as Riley explores forgotten grounds, solves puzzles, and searches for answers while a creature hunts her through the darkness.
"The summer camp nostalgia is nice, but we'd really prefer it if the night shift came without a stalker."
ANCIENT HORRORS: LOVECRAFTIAN COSMIC HORROR VS. FILIPINO FOLKLORE
One sends you into Antarctica to witness humans drawn toward an ancient presence, while the other turns a desperate midnight food run into a brush with Filipino folklore.

Penguin Colony
Rival human factions have arrived in search of an ancient being, and you're watching their expedition unravel from the perspective of a penguin. Inspired by H.P. Lovecraft's At the Mountains of Madness and The Shadow Out of Time, Penguin Colony brings cosmic horror to an unexpected vantage point.
"Cosmic horror has officially gone penguin-shaped, and we're curious enough to follow these humans straight into trouble."

Hapunan
Niko and his father are two months behind on rent, and a late-night balut route may be their best shot at keeping their home. But in Hapunan, the pressures of poverty collide with Filipino folklore as the name Penduko enters the picture, turning an act of survival into a much darker ordeal.
"We've braved the dark streets for late-night kwek-kwek and balut, but throw Pinoy folklore into the mix and suddenly staying home sounds like the better deal."
HIDDEN DREAD: A SNOWBOUND VILLAGE VS. A HOUSE THAT FEELS WRONGS
From a secretive dollmaker's reunion to a child's daily routine, these stories find their horror in places that should feel safe.

The Doll Shop
A secretive dollmaker reunites with his childhood friend in a snowbound Japanese village, and suddenly his quiet life gets a lot more complicated. The Doll Shop blends hand-drawn art, romance, and horror as you explore the village and choose your words carefully. Three endings await, with a hidden one to uncover after that.
"Romance is in the air, snow is on the ground, and those dolls are giving us reasons to keep the lights on."

Haze of Lucidity (Halu) - The Fish
Hana lives with her strict mother and finds comfort in a little fish swimming in an aquarium. But as her attachment deepens, ordinary routines become harder to ignore and a buried family history begins to surface. Halu - The Fish builds its horror through emotional unease rather than relying on constant jump scares.
"When a little fish becomes your only source of comfort, the real question is what happens when that comfort starts consuming you."
